Australian fire fighters respond to over 13,000 building fires every year. Most house fires start from cooking that is left alone. Electrical appliances and faults, heaters, cigarettes and candles are other common causes of house fires.
Prepare a home fire escape plan and practice it with all of the family. Make sure there are 2 ways out of each room where possible, as well as out of the house. Teach your child to “Get Down Low and Go, Go, Go” in case of a house fire.
Teach your child that if their clothing catches fire they should STOP, DROP, COVER (face) and ROLL. Call Triple Zero (000) in case of an emergency.
STOP running | DROP to the floor |
COVER their face with their hands | ROLL on the floor to put the fire out |
