Falls

Falls are the leading cause of injury hospitalisation among children. The most recent data (2016-2017) indicates that for children aged 0-14, falls made up almost half (46% or 30,600) of hospitalised injury.1 The cause of falls differ depending on the age of the child but can include falls involving baby products and furniture, playground equipment, roller skates, skateboards and scooters and trampolines.

Although falls from windows and balconies occur less often, they result in very serious injuries and even death among children.

More information related to falls is also available under 'sport and outdoor play' on playground equipment safety and trampoline safety.
