Alcohol in pregnancy

It is best for your baby if you don’t drink alcohol while you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  • Drinking alcohol during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth
  • Alcohol use can cause foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) in your baby
  • FASD affect your baby’s brain development, physical development, learning and behaviour
  • FASD lasts a lifetime – there is no cure.
