Marty's Nut-Free Party (Hardcover)

This is a story about a cheeky monkey, Marty, who loves to party. When Marty finds out that he is allergic to peanuts and that they make him really sick, he and his friends have to find a solution to make parties safe for Marty and still fun for everyone.

The issues addressed here focus more on the social ones rather than the pragmatic side of peanut allergy. It is hard to have fun when you always have to worry about what you put in your mouth. Also, as young children are messy eaters, the potential for cross-contamination is enormous with little fingers dipping in and out of food bowls.

Katrina (mother of a son with peanut allergy) wrote this book to help other families understand what it is like to be the "allergic" child, who is often left out at birthday parties and Easter Egg hunts because the food is not safe for them, and to encourage consideration for that child's needs as well.
